Mon. 8/20:  Bellwork Activity 1 – Author’s purpose

                    Parts of speech review:  class discussion, why do we need to know, how do we use, are they important

                                                           Highlight the given worksheets as we discuss in more depth.

                                                           cut out, make flipchart then place in Interactive Notebook (INB) 

                                                           To be used for reference on parts of speech

                   Reading for Pleasure:  Books that you liked/enjoyed/ made an impression on you when you were younger,                                                          – can be a picture book or short chapter book, 

                                                        I will share and we will discuss what might have grabbed my attention.  

                                                        If others have brought their books I will have others begin sharing.  

                                                        ***this is a grade of participation.

Tues. 8/21:  Bellwork Activity 2 – compare and contrast

                    Finish the Parts of speech flipchart – place in the INB

                   Set up their INBs.( number pages – table of contents, etc)

                   Begin lesson on Hard Fast Rules of Capitalization – take notes using capital letters correctly

     Reading for Pleasure:  Books that you liked/enjoyed/ made an impression on you when you were younger,                                                          – can be a picture book or short chapter book, 

                                                        Students will share the books they have brought- we will discuss

                                                       Each student will need a rock to accompany this activity  :)

                                                        ***this is a grade of participation.

Wed. 8/22:  Bellwork Activity 3- context clues

                   Finish Hard fast rules of capitalization- then apply what they have refreshed/learned to worksheet 20

                   Begin the lesson on Hard fast rules of commas: taking notes making sure to correctly use commas in their sentences.  

 

     Reading for Pleasure:  Books that you liked/enjoyed/ made an impression on you when you were younger,                                                          – can be a picture book or short chapter book, 

                                                        finish reading any books that are yet to be shared.

                                                        Begin rock activity –  we will find a character or object in our book that we will make a pet rock out of.  This is not an art class, but something to make reading fun.:)

Thur. 8/23:  Bellwork Activity 4 – cause and effect

                    finish notes on Hard fast rules of commas – making sure that we use commas correctly within our notes.  Complete worksheet 25 on Commas using the comma notes for reference

                    If we have time we will begin Hard fast rules of apostrophes – taking notes

 

     Reading for Pleasure:  Books that you liked/enjoyed/ made an impression on you when you were younger,                                                          – can be a picture book or short chapter book, 

                                                        We will finish our rock painting that relates to our books that we shared

                                                        ***this is a grade of participation.

Fri. 8/24: Bellwork: Read Unstoppable You to the class

                                   turn in 4 activities of bellwork that should all be on one page.

                                   Finish hard fast rules of apostrophes – making sure to use apostrophes correctly in notes.  

                                   Complete wkst 30 on apostrophes using notes for reference

                           

     Reading for Pleasure:  Books that you liked/enjoyed/ made an impression on you when you were younger,                                                          – can be a picture book or short chapter book, 

                                                        we will finish the books and rocks- we will discuss read-aloud ideas
